Bert Frank.
In a lighting shop, I came across a the Colt table lamp from Bert Frank, which instantly caught my eye. It's retro-futuristic look and bronzed finished showcased its minimal construction, despite its intricate assembly.
That discovery sparked the idea for SEVRA, a lamp that feels almost invisible at first glance.

Appear neutral and understated when off.
Transform visually and functionally when on.
No visible fasteners.

OBJECTIVE:
Design a lamp that transforms from nothing into something, while concealing fasteners.
Lighting a path.
A key challenge was creating a body with no visible seams or screws while still allowing for assembly and component access.
Settling on this ribbon shape allows for a continuous design and the ability for dual directional lighting.

Trial and error to precision.

Creating a secondary complementary form was another project in it of itself. As I didn’t just want a support structure; I needed a secondary form that could stand on it's own, not seeming like it's missing something.

The initial prototype, was way too sculptural and less practical...
Into the real-world.
Countless prototyping iterations, printing, soldering, and filling led to a showcase worthy product that could be truly interacted with.

IN MOTION
Adjustable positioning, allowing the user to adapt between object and task.
Neodymium magnets located within both the base and head
allow for seamless transitions between both states.
From nothing to something.

REFLECTIVE
Dual lighting sources — one directional, one ambient — offering a
balanced diffusion, casting light that is both focused and atmospheric.

The brushed steel surface both softens and adds depth to Sevra’s light.
